Songkran accident casualty: 277 killed, over 2900 injured

The Songkran festival comes with a heavy price to human life. The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported on Thursday that ‎277 killed, 2926 injured. The greatest number of the accidents on Wednesday were caused by drunk driving.

Wednesday’s figures brought the number of people killed and injured in the first six days, April 11-16, to 277, down by nine from the same period of last year, and 2,926 (up by 143) respectively in 2,754 accidents (up 173 cases).

Present enforcement of driving safety is inadequate and requires an overhaul specially on prevention. The attitude of drivers and riders must change. Deaths and injuries as a result of accidents on the road are high.
