Teacher wages to increase, says Thai Gov’t

The Cabinet on Tuesday gave the green light to pay rise for primary education teachers under the budget of one billion baht. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who chaired the Cabinet meeting, stressed that civil servants must be non-partisan on the occasion of the Thai Civil Service Day.

The Cabinet approved 1.2 billion baht from the government’s 2013 central budget to finance academic institutions which provide primary education. The academic institutions are expected to spend the budget on pay increase for nursery, elementary and junior high school teachers.

As the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday coincided with the Thai Civil Day, Prime Minister Yingluck said during the meeting that she wished to see all civil servants adhere to His Majesty the King’s speeches on work ethics and work honestly.
