Thai Army Chief Prayuth Chan-ocha has ordered frequent military patrols in Bangkok, especially on elevated roads and high-rise buildings, following a series of grenade attacks in the capital.
Soon if the threat from the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) has not been neutralised, Bangkok will be just like any other heavily militarised towns in the Deep South.
Political conflict in Bangkok has led to disaster for all political parties. Politicians are armed with pride and some have abandoned democracy as they join PDRC in supporting Mr. Suthep Thaugsuban’s aim of installing an unelected council to replace a democratically-elected Government.
It appears Mr. Suthep is comfortable with the presence of army in the city. For the past four months, the PDRC chief has been pleading to army officers to abandon their posts to join the neo-fascist group.
