ASTV’s Ownership over Freedom of Assembly

ASTV Manager consist of nationalists, belonging to the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD). It is the propaganda tool for PAD and the Democrat Party. Recently ASTV stepped on the toes of the Thai army, with venomous accusations against Army Chief Prayuth Chan-ocha on the highly sensitive matter of the pending ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The ruling was about the dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over the over the Preah Vihear temple.

Based on the sentiments shown by PAD and ASTV, they do not seek any measure of peace between the two countries. It has been interpreted that PAD wants a confrontation with Cambodia over the border disputes.

50 unarmed soldiers from the First Army Region had peacefully protested in front of ASTV, then on the second day a smaller group of more than 30 soldiers did the same. The outrage shown by the elitist PAD and their crony, the Thai Journalists Association, was subdued but did not have any merit.

Based on the UN’s human rights declaration, every one is entitled to the freedom of assembly and association. This being the case, why can’t soldiers peacefully demonstrate? There was no tanks, RPGs, sniper rifles or grenades. The soldiers had exercised their right without breaking any Thai or foreign laws of democracy.

ASTV and PAD’s radical reaction shows their contempt towards equality and human rights. They would prefer that they have the sole right for demonstration while those who disagree with them are not allowed to do such.
