Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has urged that operations to curb the unrest in the South be adjusted, including the addition of more “safety zones” to increase security in community and commercial areas.
1. Increasing security is the first step, then dialogues must be follow through. More inter-faith and community-building dialogues between the Muslim communities, provincial administrations and Yingluck’s government.
2. Security alone would not stop the violence. It will not reassure the people of their future. More people need to work towards meeting the needs of the society and ensure that the synergy benefits them.
3. I think Yingluck is taking baby steps towards this goal although building peace is always a delicate process.
