Reconciliation of Thailand – 2006 coup and 2010 crackdowns

Former Parliament president Ukrit Mongkolnavin has recommended amnesty for the 2006 coupmakers and for political prisoners once a section of the Constitution that relates to them is changed, in order to create an atmosphere of reconciliation.

1. I recall a recent media interview of Thaksin when he was asked about “forgiving” and “forgetting” – in the spirit of reconciliation. Justice is important and at the same time moving is equally crucial for peace in Thailand.

2. I think its also important to ask the victims and those who have lost a loved one during the 2010 crackdown on what they think about reconciliation.
